A ticket agent works for a company or organization to distribute tickets. The ticket agent may work for a transportation organization and administer public transportation tickets. Another possibility is working for an organization that sells tickets for events, such as concerts, tourist attractions, and fairs.

Being a ticket agent may require working in a small booth, so it is often important not to be sensitive to small spaces. Sometimes flexible hours are required, and weekend and night hours are common. Both part-time and full-time positions are usually available. Strong communication skills are important, and the ticket agent should have a strong knowledge of the services being offered. Strong people and customer service skills are important, as the ticket agent will work directly with customers. The situation may be stressful at times, as there may be long lines of customers that need to be serviced quickly. The ability to work well under pressure, while continuing to provide excellent service, is important. Basic but strong arithmetic skills are important, as cash handling is usually part of the job. A ticketing agent may not only administer tickets, but may also have other duties, such as scheduling customers for events and attractions and answering phone calls.
